EAST DEVON. THE PEBBLEBED COMMONS

A group called Footprint Ecology are currently consulting for a management plan on behalf of the Pebblebed Heath Conservation Trust and the RSPB. Nearly all of the Pebblebed Commons are classified as Section 15 land - this is defined in the CROW act as land to which the public have access for "fresh air & exercise", fortunately this includes horse riders.

Most of this access comes from The Law of Property Act sec. 193; thus all commons & wasteland within former urban commons are covered plus other areas where owners entered into revokable or irrevokable agreements. Much of the Clinton Devon Estate is believed to be covered by a revokable deed and this area co-incides to a large extent with the Pebblebed Heaths.

As part of the consultation by Footprint Ecology they are holding a number of drop in days at the following locations, between 10am and 4pm

10th October Newton Poppleford Village Hall

17th October The Church Rooms, Woodbury

24th October Salem Chapel, East Budleigh

CONSULTATION CLOSES 31ST OCTOBER '09

We would encourage all riders in the area to try to attend one of these days and state how important these areas are for horse riders.
